NILAVARAI BOTTOMLESS WELL
Sanctuary – Place of pilgrimage

Carefully placed under military surveillance, this open-air watering place is in fact a sacred well. Its depth is unknown. It is said to be bottomless and directly connected to the sea. Legend has it that Rama, the hero of the Ramayana, stopped here one day to rest. To quench his thirst, he plunged his arrow into the ground from which water miraculously gushed out. Despite the charm of the legend, the place is not very exciting for the uninitiated.
