ZONA ARQUEOLÓGICA TAMTOC
Area related to the huaxtec culture Teenek known for the excavations, pyramids and the carved stone known as the Sacerdotisa
This superb city was built since the 4th century, by the huaxtec culture Teenek and would have known its apogee between 900 and 1100 (Postclassic). On 200 hectares, excavations have brought to light nearly seventy administrative and religious buildings with rounded contours, which gives a glimpse of the grandeur of this society. In addition to the pyramids, you will appreciate the carved stone of a woman known as the Sacerdotisa, which is in fact a gigantic calendar stone dating from the first millennium BC, and which would be the work of the Olmec culture.
