ZONA ARQUEOLÓGICA TAMOHI - EL CONSUELO
Ceremonial center of the late Postclassic period, housing the three-dimensional sculpture called The Adolescent
Its name, Tamohí, means "place of effervescence". It was in fact an important ceremonial center of the late Postclassic period (the city was built between the 13th and 16th centuries). It is known for the discovery in 1917 of a three-dimensional sculpture (very rare in Mesoamerica) called The Adolescent, which shows dental and cranial mutilations as well as multiple scarifications. The original is on display at the Museo Nacional de Antropología in Mexico City.
