SHRI KALARAM MANDIR
Dark temple dedicated to Râma, built in 1788, whose dominant shrine is flanked by several smaller temples, a famous landmark in the city
This temple is as dark as the Muktidham is light. Dedicated to Ra, it dates from 1788. As often, the construction of this temple is surrounded by a mythological aura. Odhekar, the founder of the temple, dreamed that a black statue of Ra was in the bed of the Godavari River. He fished it out and built the temple to house the statue. There are also statues of Sîtâ and Laxmana. The main sanctuary is surrounded by several small temples like the Vithal, the Ganapati or the Maruti and forms the most important place of the city.
