SULFUR SCOTTS HEAD MARINE RESERVE
A marine reserve at the south-western tip of the island, offering the best snorkeling and diving.
Located at the south-western tip of the island, about an hour from Roseau, this marine reserve is one of the best snorkeling spots on the island, and arguably the most popular in Dominica. It's also a fabulous site for thrill-seeking divers. The area is made up of lava flows and caves, and is home to dazzlingly colorful gorgonians, corals and sponges, thanks to its excellent light conditions. Fishing is forbidden here and, as a result, the underwater fauna abounds. There are no fewer than ten diving spots in the area, all supervised by excellent professionals.
Champagne Reef Bay, between Pointe-Michel and Soufrière,is probably Dominica's best-known dive site. The fine gas bubbles (reminiscent of the famous alcoholic beverage) are due to hot springs and volcanic fumaroles. A magical landscape that will delight young and old alike!
Swiss Cheese is a large rock formation. The cave passageway is literally filled with soldierfish and goldeye, which form a curtain in front of you and move away as you go, without appearing too frightened.
Scotts Head Pinnacle (medium level). You're at a depth of 10 meters, with a spectacular crater drop (over 36 meters) in front of you. You'll discover a cavern home to lobsters, seahorses, barracudas...
