INDIAN RIVER
A pretty river estuary at the entrance to Portsmouth, offering a boat trip to see the surrounding flora and fauna.
At the entrance to Portsmouth lies the estuary of a beautiful river, the Indian River. A trip in a colorful rowing boat is a must in this area, and is highly recommended by many guides. There are about twenty of them waiting for you, but they all belong to an association recognized by the tourist office. They'll tell you all about the area, its fauna (herons, egrets, ducks, lizards and various species of crabs) and flora. You'll also be able to see some magnificent trees: palm trees that bow to you and the "Bwa mang", with their deformed trunks and wavy roots. The boat trip lasts about an hour and a half, including a short stop at a bar in the middle of a tropical garden full of heliconias, porcelain roses... to enjoy an explosive cocktail, the "Dynamite", or a fresh non-alcoholic fruit juice.
If you don't feel like going off the beaten track, the mangrove discovery and walk are well worth the detour. A short detour also takes you to the cabin that served as the setting for one of the films in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. Wonder is guaranteed (but without the pirates this time, I promise!). Beware, however, that during the peak cruise ship season, traffic jams can occur on the river... The best time to take this walk is undoubtedly in the morning, to enjoy the tranquility of the site.

I have an unforgettable souvenir. Which happiness to cover the Indian river on board local boats.
Les Dominicais are very welcoming.
