TRAFALGAR FALLS
Two waterfalls, 23 m and 38 m high, with sulphur-heated water, perfect for great photos.
These two waterfalls, flowing side by side, are nicknamed "Papa" and "Mama". They are one of the area's natural tourist attractions. They are 23 meters and 38 meters high respectively, on either side of a morne in Rocky Pools. Take time to admire the water's movement over the black volcanic rock and the surrounding flora, mainly ferns and orchids. As you admire the falls from the platform, you can also see orange water flowing between the rocks (usually to the left of the falls as you face them); this is water heated by sulfur. The location is perfect for great photos. There are several small pools with turquoise water for an invigorating swim. Be careful in the water, though, and avoid jumping! Just let yourself slide slowly off the rocks, while remaining cautious.
You don't need a guide, as it's only a 15-minute walk from the end of the road to the foot of the falls on a well-maintained path. However, each guide has his or her own special knowledge, allowing you to discover the flora and fauna in a playful way, including insects and birds that you wouldn't be able to spot on your own. Children will love the local tattoo, thanks to a small fern found on site! Walking shoes are recommended to avoid slipping.
