Tanjong Jara Resort is part of a luxurious complex designed in 1980 for the Malaysian government. The ensemble has received numerous awards for its traditional Malaysian achievements. The hotel is arranged around a lagoon and 31 ha of equatorial garden. The reception hall, together with the restaurant, forms an island connected to the shoreline by footbridges leading to traditional pavilions where the rooms are located. The whole was built on the model of the istanas, those palaces on stilts that the sultans of the coast loved.
