A breath of fresh air surrounded by lakes a few kilometres from the capital. Numerous hiking trails, easily accessible.
Easily accessible from Helsinki (by train and then by bus, at minimal transport cost), Nuuksio National Park is the capital's favorite playground for getting out and about, hiking, strolling and walking, whatever the season! Families with children are particularly keen to get out and about in complete safety (and with a certain ease), thanks to the many hiking trails accessible from the Nature House. Four circular routes can be explored as soon as you step off the bus:
Korpinkierros: 8 km of fairly sporty trails (yellow markings).
Nahkiaispolku: a fairly difficult discovery trail (pine cone markings).
Punarinnankierros: 2 km, fairly easy (red markings).
Haukankierros: 4 km with beautiful panoramic views along the way (blue markings).
It's also possible to catch up with the Haukkalampi area, which is more accessible by car (the bus goes there, but a car and/or bike is the easiest option), at the cost of another ten kilometers. From here, there are numerous accommodation options, including camping. In summer, however, it's a good idea to book the activities you want to do well in advance, otherwise you'll have to fall back on other, more expensive options. In short, Nuuksio National Park is a small paradise for nature lovers, who can try to catch a glimpse of local forest flora and fauna such as lynx, elk and flying squirrels. You won't be disappointed!
