MANX MUSEUM
It is the main museum of the Isle of Man, retracing 10,000 years of history, heritage and island heritage. The tour follows its course with videos, galleries and interactive content. Many period objects follow in the footsteps of the Vikings and Celts who inhabited this rich territory. We see reconstructed drakkars, Christian crosses, swords, coins, but also motorcycles, furniture and old posters. Many anecdotes about the TT Race and Tynwald are also on the program. Part of the facility is occupied by the National Art Gallery and features works by artists such as Archibald Knox, William Hoggat and John Miller Nicholson; another part houses the island's natural history museum and explains its wildlife, flora and landscapes. Several skeletons and animals are exposed. The National Library is also located here. A must-see during a trip to Manx land, fascinating to start your stay.
iMuseum: a few steps down the same street, this branch of the Manx National Heritage, which opened in 2011, contains thousands of digitised archives dating from the 18th century to today (open Wednesday to Friday from 10am to 5pm; free of charge; www.imuseum.im).
