FESTAS DO POVO

Dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, it is a feast not to be missed if you are in the area when it takes place. It is also called the festival of artists or people. In one night, Campo Maior is literally covered with paper flowers. It's very impressive. All these flowers are made by the inhabitants of the city, on a voluntary basis. Day after day, in secret, they create tulips, poppies, roses, carnations, in order to keep the mystery alive. The festival takes place at the end of August/beginning of September but only when the people want it. It can therefore go on for several years without it happening.
