HELLEMMES TOWN HALL AND FRANÇOIS MITTERRAND PARK
After a few steps away from the Hellemmes metro, you will arrive at the entrance of a small park in the centre of which the beautiful town hall of the municipality is located. The Parc François Mitterrand (whose bust welcomes the visitor from the entrance to the park) is a fine example of urban green space. With its large beech, ponds and fountains, its columbarium with a little fairytale tower and its tree of freedom planted during the Bicentenary of the Revolution, this English-style garden is the perfect place for the City Hall… also known as Château Fanyau. Built in the mid th century, the castle was the home of Oscar Fanyau, a rich pharmacist and mayor of Hellemmes from 1904 to 1912. At his death, the castle was sold to the commune, which thus made her Hotel de Ville. All of the red bricks, the building is a fine example of a slightly tintée bourgeois architecture of industrial architecture (mills and workshops were the surroundings of the house). By passing the porch surrounded by two beautiful lights and overlooking a door dominated by a decorated stained glass window, you will feel like entering another era! A stop not to miss during your discovery of this neighborhood which has much to offer!
