This picturesque religious centre is famous for the temple dedicated to Vayu, the god of the wind. It says that the Linga was loved by a spider, a snake and an elephant. Very old, it dates back to the Pallava period. But the current structure dates from the Chola period in the th century. The vast mandapa (central hall) supported by 100 pillars is an addition of the th century and reflects the vijayanagara architecture.
