Trinidad's highest peak, Cerro del Aripo, painstakingly rises to 904 meters, but is not easily accessible. It's easier to organize an ascent of the nearby Chaguaramal peak, which rises to 800 meters. The expedition is well worth the effort for climbers who will find it difficult to make it through the wild forest, with lots of water in tropical temperatures that are hard to bear during an ascent. Birdwatchers will be delighted. Pawi", a large bird endemic to the island, can be seen here. Guide required.

Information taken on site near the environmental authorities and guides nature, the El Cerro del Aripo mount does not seem is not accessible, or very hard to. Usually the visitor/hikers rather climbs close the Chaguaramal mount, culminating 800m but easier to access. And still... a guide over is recommended because nature very quickly resumes its rights under this tropical climate and the path is difficult to find. But the walk is worth it: high forest to the lower trees, whose branches are invaded lichens hanging... a wonderful landscape and atmosphere. It is also the only place where we could observe Pawi, large bird near the peacocks and endangered on the island (endemic of Trinidad).
To be accompanied by a guide, check with " Asa Wright Nature Center " in the valley of Arima.
