Fort Bennet was built in 1778 by British Lieutenant Rob Bennet, and played a defensive role in the attack on American ships during the American War of Independence. The ruins are located on the western edge of the small village of Black Rock. It's a pleasant place to read a book or picnic on a few benches in the shade of tall trees, while contemplating the view of the coastline, with Black Rock and Stonehaven Bay beach in full view, sublime at sunset.
