LES CIRCUITS
Recommended day trip : natural pool, the ridge, the nymphs' waterfall, the blue pool, the black pool and Namaza.
Two day tour : first day the same; the second day you can visit an ancient Bara village or the maki canyon.
Natural pool. This tour offers two access options: 15 km by car and 2 km by foot, or 9 km by foot from the MNP office. The landscape is fascinating along the way. The pool deserves its name: you can take a very pleasant bath there. The water is extremely clear, and the natural setting is very serene... Don't forget your bathing suit. From there, go to a natural belvedere, at about 10 minutes on foot. Very beautiful panorama.
Waterfall of the Nymphs and black and blue pool (two different circuits). A rugged, lush canyon that leads to two very beautiful sites, which can be reached by making a loop or two round trips: a mysterious waterfall and the "black and blue pool". Very pleasant, but a bit tricky to walk on because of the rocks (there are ramps from time to time).
Canyons of Makis and Rats. 19 km from Ranohira (15 km by car and 2 km by foot), it is a large steep canyon where palm trees and bamboo abound. Here the flora seems luxuriant, if we compare it to the rest of Isalo. In the middle flows a river, and near it, the rice fields remind us that wherever nature allows it, the people of Madagascar work tirelessly the land. Your walk will be rewarded by the presence of makis, usually very numerous, which gave their name to the place, and sifakas... as well as by a small refreshing natural pool. On the way, we discover an old royal village (visit of the enclosure and royal and traditional Bara tombs).
Caves of Teniky. To get there, count a minimum of two days of walking from Ranohira (one way). A good guide is essential as well as minimal logistics (water, food). But it is one of the most beautiful excursions in Isalo because of the variety of landscapes that it allows to discover. The caves, goal of the expedition, are impressive. The lemurs are abundant.
Circuit of the crest. Discovery in about 2h30 of walking (4 km) of the various formations which make the fame of this national park: the Queen of Isalo, the Boot, the Wolf and the Tsingy of Isalo.
Circuit Malaso. The entrance is in front of the museum of Isalo. Circuit by car of about 42 km (count 4 hours of visit), leading to the geological site of the Tsingy of Isalo, to the cliff of Ampasimaky with its picnic area, to the Wolf and to the Boot of Isalo. Superb panorama on the massif at 975 m of altitude. We join then the lake Andranovorinkaolo, where graze wild ducks. Then we will cross the savanna of Satrana, until the famous window of Isalo.
Circuit of Antsifotra. Count 29 km by car and 5 km on foot. Discovery of a forest where lemurs abound.
Via Ferrata. 25 km by car to the village of Andriamanero, then about 5 hours of course. Equipment can be rented at the park's reception office.
Circuit Korobe (VTT). Count 30 km through sclerophyllous forest of medium altitude, cave and canyon, to meet lemurs and other wild ducks.
The big tour. It is necessary to count a good week of walking, with not less than 120 km on foot and 40 km by car. We make all the tour of the massif and we finish in the natural swimming pool.
