TOURLIDA ISLAND
Small island in the Missolonghi lagoon accessible by road. Stilt houses, saltworks, salt museum, beach, restaurant.
This 15-hectare island (Νησί Τουρλίδας/Nisi Tourlidas) lies in the Missolonghi lagoon, within the Missolonghi-Etoliko National Park. It has been linked to the city since 1888 by an isthmus over which a road and cycle path run. Here you'll find the village of Tourlida (approx. 15 permanent inhabitants), made up of houses on stilts, a large saltworks, a beach, a fish restaurant and the small but very interesting Missolonghi Salt Museum, with an audio guide in French and a store selling salt and related products.
