Above the village of Ein Kerem, the Hadassah hospital (not to be confused with the one on Mount Scopus which bears the same name) is the largest in the country. It is best known for its synagogue, which houses 12 stained glass windows painted by Marc Chagall in 1962, representing the twelve tribes of Israel. The painter was inspired by symbols from passages in Genesis, referring in particular to the colours of the stones in the breastplate of the Cohen HaGadol, the High Priest
