EISE EISINGA PLANETARIUM
A planetarium in a canal-side Frisian house, created in the 18th century to counter the announcement of the end of time.
In a splendid Frisian canal-side house, you can visit the world's oldest planetarium. It was built between 1774 and 1781 by the amateur astronomer Eise Eisinga, actually a wool carder, and is still located in the house where it was conceived. It was created to counter a local preacher's announcement of the end of times, which was spreading panic among the population. In other words, to combat fake news and the religious ramblings of the time... Note the absence of Uranus for lack of space.
