The Friesian Maritime Museum traces the history of Friesian shipping and shipbuilding from the 17th century to the present day. It features photos of water sports taken in the last century, and explains the lifestyle and culture of the merchants of southwest Friesland, whose survival has always depended on the sea. The museum regularly organizes temporary exhibitions of modern photography and sculpture. Many of the artists featured are natives of the region.
