GROTE KERK - BIG CHURCH
This church, built between 1450 and 1521, was home to animals rescued during the floods of 1953.
Construction began in 1332 and continued until the early 16th century. Its tower was never completed, however, and its treasures and ornaments disappeared over time. The church survived a major fire, bombings, looting and violent storms. It has been a military hospital, a beggars' workshop, a storage area and an emergency shelter for livestock during floods. Today, it is a venue for exhibitions and cultural events.
