MINETT PARK - INDUSTRIAL, NATURAL AND RAILWAY
A unique site located in Fond-de-Gras, which bears witness to the flamboyant industrial past of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
The Fond-de-Gras is a unique site in Luxembourg, with an open-air museum that you can visit at your own pace. The site is surrounded by numerous footpaths.
Visit the industrial site and its annexes. Panels provide information on the industrial activities that took place here from the late 19thcentury onwards. In addition to the mine entrances, the main historical infrastructures include
The Fond-de-Gras railway station and its rail sheds. The station dates back to 1875 and was originally called "Gare de Lamadelaine". It had fourteen tracks, six of which were privately owned.
The former Paul Würth power station. The power station dates from 1913 and was part of the Luxembourg-Hollerich factory (Paul Würth is the name of the company that built the power station). Dismantled and transferred to Fond-de-Gras in 1988, it is used for events.
The former Victor Binck grocery store. This grocery store existed in Differdange from 1919 to 1987. It has been rebuilt down to the last detail for educational purposes. You can see a coffee-roasting machine, such as was common at the time.
A rolling mill train. Built between 1909 and 1912, it comes from the former ARBED Belval factory.
Café and restaurant. The café-restaurant Bei der Giedel (a former miners' bistro) is located at the entrance to the site, next to the Victor Binck grocery store. There's also a bistro inside the station.
Visit the Giele Botter nature reserve. The former Giele Botter open-cast mining site is now a nature reserve, accessible on foot from the site parking lot. It can be explored on a number of themed trails.
Walk to the Titelberg. Titelberg (or Tëtelbierg) is an ancient oppidum where major excavations have unearthed remains dating back to the 1st century B.C. The site can be reached from Fond-de-Gras via a narrow path.
Minièresbunn train journey to Lasauvage. Departing from Fond-de-Gras, the Minièresbunn mining train takes visitors through ancient galleries before reaching the old mining village of Lasauvage.
Draisines. The site is home to Luxembourg's very first draisines. This funny machine is a 4-seater bicycle-railway that runs on the railway line between Fond-de-Gras and Bois-de-Rodange. There's only one way to get around: pedal!
