MOLENMUSEUM DE VALK
Mill of 29 meters height, the third mill built in Leiden since 1611, named The Falcon
There were once 19 rampart mills in Leiden, and this is the only one to have survived. Today's mill, Le Faucon(valk), is the third to be built on this site since 1611. It dates back to 1743. Measuring 29 meters in height, it took just three months to build. The mill was bought in the 19th century by a certain Pieter Van Rijn. His son Willem, a keen genealogist, spent his whole life trying to find a connection with a certain milling family also named Van Rhijn, Rembrandt's family. All in vain.
