Mill of 29 meters height, the third mill built in Leiden since 1611, named The Falcon
There were once 19 wall mills in Leiden, and this is the only one that has survived. The present mill called The Falcon(valk) is the third mill built at this location since 1611 and dates from 1743. The Valk mill is 29 meters high and its frame was built in only three months. Note: the mill was bought in the 19th century by a certain Pieter Van Rijn. His son Willem, a genealogical enthusiast, tried all his life to find a connection with a certain milling family also named Van Rhijn, the family of Rembrandt. All in vain.
