HORTUS BOTANICUS
The oldest garden in the Netherlands, with four sections: pre-garden, winter garden, Clusius garden, Japanese garden
This is the oldest botanical garden in the Netherlands. It is divided into four main sections: the pre-garden, the winter garden, the Clusius garden and the Japanese garden. There's also an orangery and tropical greenhouses. If you're short of time, at least visit the Clusius Garden. Charles de l'Écluse (Clusius), a Flemish physician and botanist born in Arras in 1525, traveled and worked throughout Europe. In 1593, while professor of botany at Leiden University, he founded the Hortus Botanicus.
