Wechiau Community Hippo Sanctuary
A nature reserve home to hippos, birds, pythons and numerous chameleons, to be visited in Wechiau.
The Wechiau Community Hippo Santuary is a nature reserve that is home to hippos, but also many birds (over 200 species), pythons and many chameleons. The best attraction here remains the pirogue ride on the river to observe the hippos up close. Trekking in the forest, lulled by the soft song of the birds, is also possible. The sanctuary also has three furnished rooms and three roofs that can accommodate mattresses. Do not rely on electricity. The toilets are external and the shower is taken with a bucket. The advantage of sleeping there is obviously not the comfort but rather the proximity of nature! Moreover, the amount of money asked to stay on the spot is derisory. The best time to visit the hippo sanctuary is from November to June, when it is easy to see the big mammals. In addition, many species of birds can be easily observed in the park, and it must be said that it is precisely in this region of Ghana that the savannah is the most beautiful. The forest along the river is also very attractive. On the site, a shaded beach, suitable for picnics, invites to rest. The neighboring Burkina Faso is only a few fathoms away, on the other side of the bank... A very beautiful nature excursion that will delight lovers of fauna and flora, and which is well worth the trip!
