CRATER MOUNTAIN
The Crater Mountain Wildlife Area is the name of an experiment of 2 700 km 2 from the crater Crater (the extinct volcano) and down to the lowlands of the Purari River. The aim of this experiment is to protect wildlife and flora, including by offering people economic alternatives to deforestation, including tourism.
Villages have therefore organized, guides have been trained and we can now leave there, observing the fauna, birds, plants and local life of these very isolated villages. This requires contact with the RCF, which manages the project in Papua New Guinea and especially Goroka, where it also has a guesthouse.
