SWALLOWTAIL LIGHTSTATION
This is the emblem of Grand Manan and one of the most photographed lighthouses in the province. Those who will be crossing for this island will benefit from it. Built in 1860 and renovated in 1980 and restored in 2013-14, this historic wood lighthouse includes interpretive panels, wooden benches and picnic tables, as well as an observation area accessible through a 54 steps staircase, a wooden pedestrian bridge and a gravel trail. Take advantage of this superb view to observe the rock formations and herring weirs (fish traps located at the foot of the rocky cliffs), seals, whales, bald eagles or peregrine falcons.
