TERRA NOVA NATIONAL PARK
Nature reserve with wooded and hilly landscapes, planed by the glaciers and a coastline indented with fjords.
Covering 400 km², this nature reserve presents wooded and hilly landscapes, planed by glaciers, and a coastline indented with fjords or sounds (Clode, Newman) opening on Bonavista Bay and going deep inland. At the beginning of the summer, the waters of the coastline are strewn with icebergs carried by the Labrador Current. The fjord waters are frequented by whales from May to August.
Hiking: The park has a network of over 80 km of trails of varying degrees of difficulty. Many other outdoor activities are available (canoeing, fishing, guided tours and programs, camping, etc.).
Newman Sound: the fjord is a beautiful, wooded inlet with a beach. Camping.
Eastport Peninsula. North of the park, on Route 310. A beautiful peninsula with cliffs, small fishing villages - Happy Adventure (lobster factory), Salvage (fishermen's museum) - and sandy beaches (Little Sandy Cove).
Ochre Hill. 20 km from the north entrance of the park. Access by a 2-mile dirt road. From the top of the fire tower, there is an exceptional 360-degree view of the entire park, its forests, hills, lakes and fjords, and the ocean.
Mount Standford. Take the Secluded Harbor Trail (48 km total loop) along the coastline to Newman Sound. At the halfway point, the trail splits and a 1.5 km long trail leads to the top of Standford Mountain. An exceptional view awaits you.
