DUOMO DI IVREA
Religious building near the castle preserving some beautiful altarpieces of the XVIth century.
Near the castle, this religious edifice, dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta (Our Lady of the Assumption), lost its original medieval structure after being restructured during the Renaissance, and then underwent a major neoclassical restoration in 1854, which enlarged its dimensions. The previous Romanesque cathedral, of which the crypt and two bell towers remain, was built on the site of a Roman temple dedicated to Apollo, replaced by a church in the early days of Christianity in the Roman Empire. The Baroque interior features some fine16th-century altarpieces.
