ROMAN POOL
Roman swimming pool of the imperial period with basins of different temperatures
In 1913, during the redevelopment of Corso Bagni, the discovery of a Roman swimming pool from the imperial period caused a sensation. Rectangular and of considerable size (internal diagonal of 14.7 m, perimeter of 13 x 6.5 m), the basin is hollowed out of the stone and closed by a wall of stone scales, which supported the roof. Supplied by the Bollente spring, which is still active today, the swimming pool acted as a calidarium; it was surely followed by basins of different temperatures. Remains of marble flooring testify to the luxury of the finishes.
