BASILICA DI SAN GAUDENZIO
The highest basilica in the world offering a panoramic view of the city and its surroundings.
Built in the 16th century, the basilica became the symbol of the right to citizenship of the inhabitants of Novara against the oppressive Spanish occupation. The interior preserves a very elaborate baroque altar and the relics of San Gaudenzio, patron saint of the town. Most striking is the 121 m dome, among the highest in the world built in brick, designed between 1844 and 1886 by Antonelli. From its summit the view of the city and its surroundings is remarkable.
