BATTISTERO DI NOVARA
The city's oldest building, with frescoes depicting scenes from the Apocalypse.
It is the oldest building of its kind in the city and on the Po plain. Built in the5th century, the outer drum surmounted by a dome was added in the 11thcentury . The octagonal interior is articulated by rectangular and semicircular niches. The baptismal basin, cylindrical well, drain and shards of pavement remain, but recent restoration work has uncovered 8 large frescoes depicting scenes from the Apocalypse on the loggia floor, one of the most important examples of pre-Romanesque painting in the region.
