Juan Carlos at the connected school is great! If you're looking to rent a board, you can't beat this location right next to the beach. I rented a board from him a few times, and he was always flexible on timing. He also gave nice tips about the surf conditions and places to visit in Nosara. Thank you again, Juan Carlos!
Great place to stay. Staff is great. Food at Destiny is great for breakfast. Would really like to see them add handrails on the stairs to rooms 8&9. Very hard for some people to climb
I stayed 5 nights in the hotel, mid December 2023. Issues:
1) booked a package hotel + surfing, the manager refused give me a surf lessons, which I payed for.
2) dirty sheets and even pillowcase with the poop of gecko;
3) terrible breakfast , I was informed about the closure of the break fast cafe one day before arrival;
4) cornice felt down almost to my head;
5) surf school wants to take money and lie about making video/ giving a reduction price. Agreed to have 2h lessons and had only 1h 15 mins including walking to the beach/ exercises in the hotel. Also asking clients out.
They want just to make money not giving any attention to the clients.
La Negra hotel in Costa Rica is a hidden gem! Its beachside location is stunning, the breakfast is delightful, and the on-site surf school adds to the charm. What sets it apart is the incredibly friendly staff—making it a top-notch experience. Highly recommend for a perfect getaway!
This is the perfect hotel for a stay in Nosara! The rooms are extremely clean and bright. I slept amazingly well each night. The location to the beach can not be beat - just a short walk through the woods and you are at the best surf break in Nosara. Finally the staff are so welcoming, they responded quickly to my requests and always with a warm smile. I highly recommend LaNegra for your next visit to Nosara.
This place was great. I wasn't aware of it when I booked, but I think it's in the best location, one of the shortest walks to the surf you can get.
Our room was very comfortable, simple clean, cool, very easy to rest in. Staff were all friend although there wasn't much interaction, it wasn't really necessary!
I did two surf lessons with Juan Carlos' team, Josef instructed me. I'm really glad I took the lessons. Sure I got plenty of great instruction and insight, but most importantly they just helped me get situated where I'd get the best waves while spending the least energy. The best waves I caught were certainly because of the positioning that Josef set me up for.
Also the included breakfast at Destiny was... Just perfect. Ultra quality food, filling portions, perfect for replacing all the calories spent surfing. I liked the Greek breakfast best.
Un lugar Mágico a pasos del sendero que te lleva a la playa. Tranquilo, con excelente vibra y un desayuno / brunch increíble!!! Es nuestra tercera vez en el hotel y seguiremos volviendo!
Loved the vibe here and felt right at home. The staff was excellent and promptly took care of every request I had. Would absolutely recommend a stay here in Nosara!
Felt so lucky to have found this place and that it was available!! Stayed with my 17 yr old son for a week. The hotel is very chill and comfortable in a relaxed way while the staff is very friendly and helpful. Perfect location for surfers as the entrance to the beach is just behind the hotel. The hotel also offered free breakfast (a restaurant open until 3PM is attached) which was amazing. The hotel is also great for non surfers/beginners as there is a surf school on the premise staffed by very friendly instructors.
Hotel is about 5min walk to center of town full of excellent eating options and just far enough to keep the calm and chill atmosphere.
The room was decorated nicely in a simple style. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. The private outdoor patio was perfect for storing our surfboards and drying swimsuits. There was a common kitchen which had a microwave, bigger fridge, ice, stove, etc.
If you are lucky enough in this life to visit Guiones, you are luckier still to stay at La Negra. Not only did the accommodations and location exceed our expectations, the people were also courteous, kind, and welcoming.
SURF - Whether you are a first time or long-time surfer, be sure you meet up with Juan Carlos and catch some waves with him or one of his teammates. The daily use of his boards was simple and reliable, and our crew was very grateful for his hospitality.
ROOMS - We stayed in 6 and 7 and I would recommend these rooms when visiting as two couples. Having the kitchenette and shade of room 7 and the day long sun of room 6 to quickly dry suits, rash guards, and towels was just perfect.
YOGA - Do yourself a favor and be sure to attend one of Paula’s classes. Even if you have never done yoga before, it is a great work out and you might just have a life altering experience like I did.
FOOD – If you are a foodie or a foodie in training, experiencing breakfast at Destiny Cafe will be a truly memorable experience. When you stay at La Negra, breakfast is included, and you will thank yourself. The four of us tried just about everything on the menu and could not get enough. Do note that Destiny is closed to the public on Mondays, but there is a limited menu available for guests so don’t miss out! The smoothies, coffee, and pastries will also blow you away. If you have the pleasure of tasting one of the croissant (made fresh in house)… you will believe you are in a French cafe. It is no wonder that people travel significant distances to experience the deliciousness of Destiny.
Though we love to travel and see all the beautiful places our world has to offer… before I leave this life, I will pay another visit to this little gem.
Absolutely adore the surf school here. Ivan is a genius, making surfing feel like a lesson on life. Juan Carlos is so warm and accommodating. It’s been such a pleasure learning from these teachers and mentors.
Had an amazing time at the beautiful and rustic La Negra! The staff - especially Louise and Carlos were incredibly helpful in organizing different activities throughout my stay. Rooms were very clean and location is ideal for the beach and restaurants. Having both Destiny cafe (food was amazing) and La Negra surf school on the grounds is super convenient. Shout out to Juan Carlos and Ivan from La Negra Surf School for making my surf experience top notch!

Louise who helps with bookings is helpful, thoughtful, and very accommodating. She was kind enough to allow us to view the space before booking.
We were able to view the home and space to ensure that it fits our needs which was a huge plus in making our decision to decide to go with La Negra!
I appreciate their hospitality so much and recommend La Negra to anyone who is looking for a personal experience in booking your stay in Nosara.
The fact that Destiny is connected to La Negra makes it all THAT much more incredible.
Thank you!
