AGHIOS GEORGIOS CASTLE
Go there and contact
The medieval Venetian capital of the island is located 7 km south-east of Argostóli, but not served by public transport. Main interest: the 13th century Venetian castle of Aghios Georgios, located in Peratata village. It was then subjected to the different waves of Turkish and Western occupation. Very damaged by the earthquakes, the citadel now has only its drawbridge and some dilapidated buildings, including the Evangelistria church. Perched at an altitude of 320 m, the fortress enjoys an impressive view of the fertile countryside of Livathos.
