ACADIAN STELE
This commemorative monument installed in the village of Miquelon recalls the odyssey of the Acadian people from 1755 to the beginning of the 19th century. The archipelago attracted the Acadians following the Great Upheaval. Unfortunately, their salvation was short-lived. Many were deported to France in 1767 by order of the French authorities who feared being overwhelmed by the influx of refugees, and again in 1793 following the English invasion. After the final handover of the islands to France in 1816, many Acadians came to resettle there.
