About an hour from Matapica's spawning beach, on the right bank of the Commewijne, lies the small fishing village of Johan en Margaretha. Only remnants of the old plantation remain, but it's a pleasant place to eat or dine by the river - although beware of mosquitoes after dark! You can pack a picnic lunch, or at the entrance to the village of Margrita, you'll also find a small shack offering baka bana (plantain fritters), loempias, rotis, bami and nasi, depending on the day, at low prices.
