Freshwater sea offering a possibility to observe the famous toninas or pink dolphins, a species of freshwater dolphin
In the so-called "Sea of Freshwater", at the confluence of the Meta and Orinoco rivers, Colombia's most easterly point, 5 minutes from the port by lancha, you can observe the famous toninas or pink dolphins(Inia geoffrensis) also known as Boto elsewhere, a species of freshwater dolphin endemic to the Orinoco and Amazon rivers. The tonina is sacred to the Indians, who devote various legends to it, and is a protected species. Some specimens reach 2.5 meters in length and weigh up to 160 kg. They are pink or gray, depending on their age and activity.
