SAINT-GERMAIN-D'AUXERRE CHURCH

Church famous for its abbey, decorated with a Romanesque portal surmounted by a frieze resting on columns with sculpted capitals.
On the forest and abbey circuit, stop off at Saint-Germain-d'Auxerre church, less famous than La Trappe abbey. It is nevertheless older than the abbey church. Built between the 11th and 12th centuries, it is the only monument to have survived the fire that ravaged the town in 1753. Built in Grison, a local rock, the church features a Romanesque portal surmounted by a frieze resting on columns with carved capitals. A must-see!
