Tatarstan's main street overlooks Lake Kabane, whose shores are now ultra-modern, but which is located in the historic part of the city. This is where the old Tatar suburb is located: on the left bank of the lake, between Tatarstan Street to the north, Sara Sadykova Street to the west and Mardjani Street on the east bank.
When the Russians conquered Kazan, part of the Tatars were no longer allowed to live within the Kremlin walls and were relegated to that part of the city. Thus was born the Tatar suburb. On Nassyri Street, the Al-Marjani Mosque is one of the first stone mosques built after 1552. Don't fail to notice while passing by, the State Tatar Theater Academy Galiaskar Kamal: ul. Tatarstan, 1. 1906, the official date of the birth of the Tatar theatre, was the year when the first performance in the Tatar language took place there.
