SSEZIBWA FALLS
Much appreciated in their time by the kabakas Mwanga and Mutesa II, this "hole of greenery where a river sings" conceals a waterfall not devoid of beauty. In this place shrouded in legend, where sacrificial and propitiatory ceremonies still take place today in order to conciliate the spirits (your cicerone will provide you with many details on this subject), the Ssezibwa falls. Although its flow varies with the seasons, the 18 m-high jump can be admired all year round. Rock climbers wishing to discover the top of the waterfall should not forget to put on sturdy ankle boots, as the rock is particularly slippery during and after showers. The Ssezibwa, a 150 km-long river that flows into Lake Kyoga, is surrounded by greenery(prunus africana, Gabon tulip tree...), which is a welcome sight for the local monkeys, birds and butterflies! There's no need to hire a guide if your sole aim is to take selfies or have a picnic. However, hiring a mahout (20,000 Ush plus entrance fees) can be worthwhile for anyone wishing to learn more about local history, customs, flora and fauna. Finally, it's possible to camp on site (between 10 and 20,000 Ush/person): the Ssezibwa Falls Resort (+256 704 023 485) offers grassy grounds overlooking the waterfall, clean sanitary facilities, shelter and meal preparation (to order).
