EL ALAMO POPLAR
Poplar tree in Miraflores, the tree died but its trunk remains in good condition, a poem by Vicente Aleixandre to be read at the foot of El Alamo
This poplar is one of the jewels in the crown of Miraflores village. Estimated to be over 260 years old, the tree died of an infection in the 1980s. The residents, very attached to such a marvel, had the square housing the tree renovated, and decided to preserve its trunk, which is still in very good condition. Spanish writer and poet Vicente Aleixandre, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1977 and a member of the famous Generation of 27, dedicated a poem to the tree, which Spanish-speaking walkers can read at the foot of El Alamo.
