REMAINS OF THE CASTELL DE SANT FELIP
This castle, located on the southern shore of the mouth of the port of Mahón, houses a labyrinth of underground galleries
Located on the southern shore of the mouth of the port of Maó, Sant Felip Castle was long considered Europe's most important fortress in the mid-18th century. Built in the 16th century to the designs of Italian engineer Joan Baptista Calvi, it houses a labyrinth of underground galleries where 3,500 English civilians and soldiers were besieged for six months during the Spanish conquest of 1782 (the castle was destroyed after this episode).
