MARBLE MOUNTAIN (NGU HÀNH SON)
The sanctuaries on this mountain contain magnificent statues of all kinds, sometimes carved right out of the rock.
Legend has it that in the 19th century, Emperor Gia Long gave the five mountains the names of the five elements: metal (Mount Kim Son), wood (Mount Môc Son), water (Mount Thuy Son), fire burns in the caves of Mount Hoa Son, and Thô Son represents the Earth. Rocks of limestone origin are mixed with older layers of marble. The most revered mountain is Mount Thuy Son. It aligns 3 peaks (Tam Thai - the Triple Peak, which gave its name to the pagoda): Thuong Thai, Trung Thai and Ha Thai. The construction of an elevator appears of questionable taste. The irruption of untimely infrastructures (cable cars and others) in many Vietnamese natural sites makes the formerly preserved landscapes, devoted to silence and contemplation, look ugly. It is often justified only by the enrichment of a few.
The sanctuaries contain magnificent statues of all kinds, sometimes carved out of the rock. The caves, which were the scene of fierce fighting during the last war, now contain an impressive number of statues. The oldest are of immeasurable beauty and value. The most beautiful piece is probably a magnificent Buddha carved in the rock and dating from the 12th century. During the ascent, you will find several remarkable sites on your way: the pagodas of Linh Hung (19th century, with its white marble statues) and Tam Thai (1825) or the authentic village of Non Nuoc.
