BA VI NATIONAL PARK
A 700-hectare park, preserving remnants of the primeval forest and home to rare and endangered plant and animal species.
The park covers an area of 700 ha. It preserves the remains of the primitive forest and shelters rare and endangered animal and plant species. In colonial times, the French were already coming to seek coolness and rest on the slopes of these mountains, which can be seen in the distance from the terrace of some of Hanoi's great hotels: the King's peak (1,296 m), the Tan Viên (1,226 m), the Ngoc Hoa (1,120 m). Climbing them, one is rewarded by a splendid panorama of the Red River Delta. There are also the remains of a summer resort, built by the French in 1940, as well as a temple dedicated to Ho Chi Minh(Den Thuong). To the east of the Ba Vi Mountains, the Ao Vua Falls (Tan Linh commune) are very popular with visitors. According to the legend, it is in these places that Son Tinh, the genius of the Mountain, would have triumphed over Thuy Tinh, the genius of the Waters. The spring would have gushed out at this place after Son Tinh planted his sword there and ordered his thirsty soldiers to dig there. The waterfall flows into a clear reservoir called King Son Tinh's Pond. Springs and waterfalls feed the swimming pools (slides...) which make the happiness of the families during the weekends crushed by the heat of the summer. Ba Vi Park also shelters villages of the Muong and Dao ethnic groups, who are known for their knowledge of medicinal herbs, collected in the park and used for the treatment of various ailments. In the vicinity of the park there are several farms dedicated to agricultural research.
