PUENTE DEL ATLÁNTICO
Three kilometers north of the Gatún and Agua Clara locks, the third bridge of the canal, the only one on the Atlantic side, connects the east and west of the province of Colón since 2019. It has 2 traffic lanes in each direction, 75 m above sea level, with pylons reaching a height of 212.5 m. With a length of 1,050 m and a central span of 530 m, it is the longest concrete cable-stayed bridge in the world, according to its builder Vinci. One of the challenges was not to interrupt the normal operation of the canal and the transit of ships during the work.
