Visit Longford's remarkable cathedral, designed by Joseph Kane and dedicated to St. Mel, which resembles a Greek temple.

Designed by Joseph Kane between 1840 and 1856, this cathedral looks like a Greek temple with a large domed bell tower. It is dedicated to Saint Mel, companion of Saint Patrick. An accidental fire destroyed much of the building on Christmas morning 2009. After only two and a half years of hard work and a lot of talent, St Mel's Cathedral in Longford is once again the pride of the people of and many call it " like a phoenix from the ashes ".

Incredible, and almost moving to visit this beautiful church given in very little time. Feeling of shared invincibility when you enter.
