TEŠANJ CASTLE
Large castle with walls 2.40 m thick and 10 m high, featuring a tower housing a small history museum.
The largest castle in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Dvorac Tešanj) dominates the pretty little town of Tešanj, which has about 5,000 inhabitants, 97% of whom are Bosnians. It is located on a steep, rocky hill that was first fortified by the Illyrians. It took its present form under the Ottomans, between the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century, with walls 2.40 m thick and up to 10 m high and a powerful tower built on the basis of a keep of the Bosnian kings. The latter now houses a small history museum.
