FORTRESS OF BOČAC
Fortress with the small artificial lake of Bočac 1.5 km downstream, the best preserved of the valley's three fortresses.
Set on a hill at 320 m above sea level, it is the best preserved of the three fortresses in the valley. Called Tvrđava Bočac/Тврђава Бочац or Stari Grad Bočac, it dates from the 15th century. Taken by the Ottomans in 1527, it was reinforced until the early 17th century and abandoned in 1833. At its feet, a 66-m high dam created in 1981 forms the small artificial lake of Bočac (Jezero Bočac), 1.5 km downstream. With its beautiful scenery (green islets, sandbanks...) and a panoramic restaurant, this reservoir marks the beginning of the Vrbas canyons.
