GREBEN FORTRESS
A fortress on an impressive rocky outcrop with a round tower and a section of ramparts descending to the Vrbas.
This fortress (Tvrđava Greben/Тврђава Гребен) is set on an impressive rocky spur overlooking the Vrbas. It is an ancient fortified village established in the 12th century. Passed under the control of the Croatian bans in the 14th century, then the Ottomans in 1527, it was transformed to serve as both a fort and a prison. Quite difficult to access, its ruins are however well presented with explanatory panels installed along a path. The site preserves a round tower and a section of its ramparts descending towards the Vrbas.
