LE THÉÂTRE DES ROCHES
Inspired by the ancient theatre of Orange and its immense background wall, the Théâtre des Roches d'Alise-Sainte-Reine was built in a former career, just above the village, in the late 1940 s. Abbot Jovignot, the priest of the day, was the instigator of the revival of the pilgrimage of the Holy Queen who had the idea. The career for abandonment was a quasi-clandestine shipyard in 1945-46 and the theatre was largely carried out by German prisoners. Inaugurated on 7 July 1946 by 3000 spectators who could applaud the "Britannicus" from Racine, it now seems that he has always been there! An extraordinary playground for children, a destination for walks and meditation or refuge for lovers, it is an exceptional place for the shows. Each summer, the concerts and performances of Les Nuits Peplum and the two representations of the Mystery of the Holy Queen, played since the High Middle Ages in Alise-Sainte-Reine, followed. With a capacity of up to 2000 spectators, this green area is just a few steps away from the statue of Vercingétorix. That is why artists and public agree that it is a magical place.
